A Relaxing Escape to Yarmouth: Finding Rest and Renewal

After our arrival in Gunwharf Quay,

it became clear that both of us were completely exhausted from the past three weeks. Recognizing the need to catch up on everything, we made the decision to spend a few days in Yarmouth. The weather conditions, with a northeasterly wind, meant that anchoring would be less than ideal – the rolling waves would potentially disrupt our well earned sleep. So we opting for a marina stay, allowing us to settle down while providing Ian the opportunity to focus on his yacht master training without the worry of dragging anchor at any time.

Leaving Gunwharf Quay behind, we embarked on our journey to Yarmouth, and it turned out to be a fantastic day for sailing. The weather was much better than the previous day, with a pleasant wind speed of 10-12 knots and the sun shining brightly throughout. It was the first time this season that I didn’t feel cold, and I didn’t need my trusty Fowlis jacket and trousers for the second consecutive day – a sure sign that summer had arrived.

Around 14:00, with the sun still casting its warm glow, we docked in Yarmouth. After securing the lines, stowing the sails, and completing the necessary tasks that come with sailing, we prepared a hearty dinner before settling in for a well-deserved rest.

The following morning, both of us indulged in a luxurious sleep-in, which felt incredibly rejuvenating. I managed to sleep soundly through the entire night, finding pure bliss in the tranquility. After our leisurely morning, Ian delved into his studies while I embarked on what I called an “express cleaning” session – a term that might be somewhat misleading. You see, when it comes to cleaning, I have a tendency to go all out and not stop until every nook and cranny is spotless. I’m not one for simply tidying up and sweeping the floor; I meticulously scrub away dirt with toothbrushes and nail brushes, especially on a boat where cleanliness is paramount.

Despite my tired and weak state due to my CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome), I managed to resist the urge to push myself too hard, knowing that I needed to conserve my energy. Completing an express cleaning session in four hours was a personal achievement, and I felt proud of myself for finding a balance.

With the exterior of the boat gleaming from my efforts, I decided to treat myself to a homemade Frappuccino. Although my attempt didn’t quite turn out as planned, it was still a delicious indulgence.

Meanwhile, Ian continued his studies, so I made myself scarce by putting away laundry. However, true to my nature, I couldn’t stop at just that. Before I knew it, I found myself engrossed in a deep cleaning session of the bathroom – a classic case of getting carried away. On the bright side, the bathroom now sparkled with cleanliness, and our bedroom appeared tidy and dust-free.

As the day unfolded, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment, not only for the progress made on the boat but also for embracing self-care and recognizing the importance of balancing my energy levels. Yarmouth had already proven to be a place of solace and relaxation, allowing us to recharge and prepare for the adventures that lay ahead. Until Next. 🤍
