A Weekend of Girly Adventures and Yacht Master Triumphs
Ah, July – the month of sunshine and beach days, right? Wrong! Well, at least in my neck of the woods. A girly adventure and yacht master triumphs are in the horizon.
As Ian embarked on his yacht master prep and test, leaving me to fend for myself, I was faced with a week of battling the infamous July rain and those strong winds that seemed to have a personal vendetta against us. But hey, who says a bit of rain can’t be turned into a girly adventure?
To escape the soggy grasp of the weather gods, we decided to move our boat to Mylor Marina. This not only gave me the luxury of being able to step off the boat without being blown away, but it also provided a glimmer of hope for some dry, sunny moments. So there I was, alone on the boat, ready to tackle the world—or at least the teak floor of the cockpit.
Let’s just say that my glamorous teak floor makeover involved a lot more sweat and frustration than I had anticipated. Two whole days of elbow grease later, I emerged victorious, with a treated and gloriously good-looking floor. With the floor saga finally behind me, I decided to put my girly touch on the cockpit, transforming it into a space worthy of any Pinterest board.

Just as I was settling into my newfound solo-sailor routine, the weekend brought with it a burst of excitement in the form of my friend Kelley. She swooped in, like a breath of fresh air, ready to infuse some much-needed girl power into my life. Our first mission: conquer Falmouth town. We strolled through the streets, explored quaint shops, and eventually landed in a restaurant where we devoured some scrumptious turkey delights. You know it’s a proper girls’ day when the word “food” features prominently.
And speaking of food, after dinner, we embarked on a grocery store escapade to stock up on ingredients for an “eden mess” extravaganza. Then it was back to the boat to a delectable concoction of movie nights, Prosecco, and decadent treats.
Our evening was a symphony of laughter, movie magic, and indulgent desserts. We shared stories, giggled like schoolgirls, and made memories that could power our friendship for years to come. As we drifted into slumber, I couldn’t help but think that girly weekends were the best weekends.
.
Waking up the next morning, our adventure continued as we headed to Truro town center. Breakfast and market wandering were the order of the day. In the heart of our exploration, we stumbled upon a secondhand store, a hidden gem filled with dresses and outfits from the past. Kelley couldn’t resist, and she emerged victorious with some fantastic vintage pieces. Me? Well, my boat life sadly limited my storage space, but that didn’t stop me from planning a triumphant return in the future.
As our Truro escapades unfolded, we discovered something even more unexpected—a gin festival within the hallowed walls of the cathedral itself. Yes, you read that right. What’s better than exploring different gins from across the United Kingdom in the shadow of centuries-old architecture? Naturally, we embraced the opportunity with open arms (and slightly wobbly steps). The result? A gin-fueled adventure that led us back to the boat with newfound spirits—both figuratively and literally.

Just when the weekend felt like it couldn’t get any better, a tipsy, triumphant Ian made a surprise appearance. Turns out, the yacht master prep had been conquered, and he had returned to share his victory. Amidst the laughter, the cheers, and a slight unsteadiness in his step, we celebrated not only his success but the end of the stressful chapter.
Sunday arrived all too soon, and it was time for Kelley to bid adieu. But not before we indulged in a hearty breakfast at the charming Cafe Mylor. As hugs were exchanged and goodbyes were said, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the girly adventures, unexpected surprises, and the bonds that even the wildest winds and rain couldn’t break.
So, here’s to girly weekends that turn rain into rainbows, floors into masterpieces, and challenges into laughter. Until the next adventure, let’s keep the spirit of sisterhood alive, come rain or shine—or a little bit of both.
