"Prep and Perseverance: A Lone Sailor's Journey in Las Palmas

Ahoy, my seafaring companions! – we’re in Las Palmas, a merry haven where the sea breeze whispers tales of camaraderie and the notorious mold that seems to appear like magic. Ian has left my alone to gallivants back home for a Schengen sojourn, I find myself in the midst of a maritime comedy of errors, fixes and cleaning.

So, here I am, two days into Ian’s landlubber escapade, waking up with the dawn to perform the electric ballet – to plug or not to plug, to charge or not to charge the batteries that be the question! A swashbuckling workout follows, because a sailor’s gotta keep up appearances, right?

A quick wash, polish to wash off all that salt and Sahara dust the had accumulated which set me on a course that involves less treasure hunting and more tackling the to-do list.

Then it’s Food prep, food inventory for the upcoming journey over the Atlantic – because a well-fed sailors is a happy sailors. Tidy up the spare rooms for the incoming crew, but not to forget to nourish me, myself and I, oh, the joy of solo solitude!

As I embrace the rhythm of ship maintenance, tackling laundry and engaging in a fierce battle against the outside mold invasion, I can’t help but marvel at the sheer audacity of the spore-filled fiends. It’s a tale of heroics against the microscopic forces of nature!

A stitch in time, they say, saves nine – and I, armed with needle and thread and a cup of tea, embark on a quest to mend me garments, refusing to let even the tiniest fray escape me grasp. The ship’s interior shines like the proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, a testament to the sailor’s wit and cunning.

I Ventured out with our new ARC neighbours and friends , accompanied by Chris and Laura, for a delightful dinner at the sailors’ bar. Following the meal, they graciously extended an invitation for me to join them aboard their boat for a cozy cup of tea.

Laura, a culinary virtuoso, revealed her culinary masterpiece – a recipe book crafted for our seafaring journey. Each page unfolds like a map, guiding us through a gastronomic odyssey on the high seas. Printed menus meticulously detail our daily meals, complemented by recipes designed for the ambitious culinary enthusiasts among us. Her provisions are nothing short of a spectacle – a feast that delights both the eyes and the taste buds. Inspired by her culinary artistry, I make a solemn pledge to match her prowess and embark on a culinary voyage with equal enthusiasm.

While Ian embarks on a his UK adventure, this solitary sojourn promises to be a nautical adventure of epic proportions. Onward, me hearties, for the sea beckons, and there are tales yet to unfold!
